Long term participant, consumer, and collector of art and artistry. johnandjane is a platform founded by johnny doe for the purpose of celebrating the margins, the spaces where interesting things happen. Through years of immersion in art, from the early exhibitions such as Hirst’s Freeze, through pilgrimages to Palestine for a tenure at Banksy’s Walled Off, and countless intervening shows, some attended, some hosted, it has long been the intent of JD to establish something more curatorial, a construct formed of the materials consumed, coveted and produced over the course of a life spent in the pursuit of artistic integrity, because only when something has integrity can it be of value to anyone. In his own works it is the demons, the banal, the maligned and the neglected which are of interest. How can we turn these things inside out to look differently and see what’s always been there but conventional conditioning tells us to avert our gaze from, to pity, or to ignore altogether.
