Stikening behaviour
Stik eBay frenzy continues with the artist’s free 5 colour-ways ‘Holding Hands’ print in September’s Hackney Today newspaper. If you were lucky enough to meet the artist, who kindly decided to show his appreciation by greeting fans in Hoxton Square (including awe-struck middle aged men who just couldn’t contain their excitement) you could expect to command over £2k for a signed set. Somewhat less exciting was the sight of people hissing and scratching as they climbed over each other to grab as many copies as they could when Stik brought a pile of papers with him on one of his appearances in the Square. We know that, regardless of what they tell themselves, people are inherently greedy, but when it comes to the surface as blatantly as it did here you’re reminded that community and kinship really is rarer than you wish it was.
In addition to the Findac 24 event which ran the week before last, in conjunction with West Contemporary Gallery, there has been plenty over the past fortnight to relieve collectors of their boredom, as well as their cash!
